Jim's Auto Service Center's History 

Jim’s Auto Service Center was established in Perryville, MO. After being in the auto repair industry since 1965, Jim Blythe began on his own by purchasing Harry’s Garage from Harry Berkbigler. Harry was one of Jim’s mentors, and Harry’s Garage had already built a strong reputation and client base, having been in business since the late 1940s. Two years later, Jim changed the name to Jim’s Service Center.

Jim started the business with another mechanic, primarily handling radiator repair and general automotive services. In the mid 1980s, air-conditioning service and repair was added to our long list of services. As awareness of the depleting ozone layer grew in the 80s, ecological impact studies came in and changes were made to the refrigerant. We updated our services with all the necessary equipment, training and government certifications.

As automotive engineering evolved with more and more computers, technology went hand-in-hand with auto services, Jim has stayed up to speed by purchasing the state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and has received extensive training. We traveled to Cape Girardeau, St. Louis, Lake of the Ozarks, Kansas City and Chicago for the latest in training from industry leaders like Alliance of Automotive Service Providers, NAPA, ACDelco and others.

In 1990, Jim’s wife Bev joined us full time as secretary and bookkeeper. In 1994, we incorporated and changed the name to Jim’s Auto Service Center Inc.

After returning home from college in 1996, Dominic Blythe joined our ranks. His brother, Brian, joined the family business in 2000 after completing automotive training at the Lincoln Technical Institute in Indianapolis, IN.

We now have three ASE-certified technicians. We are a AAA-certified auto repair facility, a NAPA Auto Care Center, an ACDelco professional service center and an auto repair garage certified by O’Reilly Auto Parts.

In November 2011, Jim retired. Dominic and Brian purchased the business and continued to carry on the family name in automotive service. They are the third generation in the automotive repair field following their grandfather Robert and father Jim.

Our motto has always been high-quality repairs with hometown service, and we strive to make every experience at Jim's Auto Service Center a great one.
